Pharmacological Screening on Effect of Grape Seed Extract on Wound Healing In Rats

Abstract


Plants and their parts play indispensable roles to treat various ailments. Vitis viniferae is one of the medicinal plants used traditionally to treat wounds. Methods-The crude extraction was carried out using 80% ethanol. The extract was prepared in ointment form by mixing with petroleum jelly and evaluated for wound healing activity using excision of wound models in male wistar rats. Results-Prepared ointment with extract mixed petroleum jelly significantly reduced period of epithelialization and increased tensile strength and wound contraction rate compared to control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion-These results demonstrate that the extract of Vitis viniferae seeds possesses wound healing activities. This justifies the traditional use of the plantst and their parts to treat wounds
