Abstract

This study was designed to assess the derangement in the values of PT and aPTT in normal pregnancy and in complicated pregnancies. It was a randomized prospective study conducted on 100 pregnant females by dividing them into five groups of 20 each. PT and aPTT was measured by automated coagulometer and compared in different groups in different trimesters. With increasing trimester PT and aPTT value decreased in both normal and some of the complicated pregnancies. Prolonged aPTT value from second to third trimester was observed with twin pregnancy. Pre eclampsia and PIH were associated with slightly higher levels of PT and aPTT values and gestational diabetes with slightly lower levels when compared to normal pregnancy. Multiple pregnancy and gestational diabetes were found towards hyper-coagulable state in our study
